Professor Abdul-Razzaq Abdul-Majeed Alaro, MCIArb is a Shariah expert, a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and an internationally certified arbitrator. His area of specialization is Islamic Financial Transactions, with emphasis on banking, insurance and capital market, and has published in reputable peer-reviewed journals across the world. Currently, he is Professor and Head of Department of Islamic Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, where he has been teaching for over a decade Islamic Law of Contract, Islamic Property Law, Islamic Company Law and Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh). In addition, Prof Alaro is a member of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Advisory Council of Experts, a member of the Advisory Council to the Nigerian National Insurance Commission, and has been invited to speak in many high impact fora, including International Shariah Scholars Forum (ISSF) in 2014 and 2018, International Islamic Liquidity Management Roundtable on Sukuk in 2016, African International Conference on Islamic Finance, in 2017 & 2019, SOAS Workshop on Islamic Finance, University of London in 2020 and World Halal Expo in 2020. He also heads the Research and Translation committee of the Union of African Muslim Scholars, with headquarters in Bamako, Mali. Prof. Alaro is an alumnus of Islamic University of Medinah, Saudi-Arabia where he graduated with a First Class Degree in 1993, and was listed in 2017 as one of the most outstanding alumni of the university worldwide. He speaks and writes fluently in both Arabic and English.
